Taste and Odour - Goornong
- Goornong
Your water is safe to drink.
We are aware some customers in Goornong are noticing changes in the taste and odour of their water.
We want to assure you that your water is being regularly tested and remains safe to drink.
However, we appreciate the changes to taste and odour are not ideal, and we are working quickly to ensure it is back to normal as soon as possible.
In the meantime, if you would prefer to access a different source of drinking water, we’ve set up a water trailer at the corner of Bagshot Street and Goornong-Fosterville Rd: https://maps.app.goo.gl/utaPocAeQnzDskEq6

Rural Water Efficiency Project - flora and fauna investigations
- Various locations - rural network
We’re carrying out flora and fauna investigations across our rural supply network between Monday 23 June and Friday 4 July.
Our contractors from SMEC will be working along roadsides and in public areas, assessing vegetation and wildlife patterns and movements. This work will take place in areas that may be considered for pipelines, if the Rural Water Efficiency Project is funded in the future.
No access to private property will be required, but customers and community members may notice our teams carrying out this work. In some areas, fauna surveys will need to take place at night, so our teams may be walking through these areas between 7pm and 10pm using spotlights to look for animals in trees.
This work is part of a broader program to make our rural network more efficient. Learn more at connect.coliban.com.au/rural-water-efficiency
Stream gauge upgrade – Castlemaine
- Castlemane
We are upgrading an old stream gauge in Campbells Creek near the Castlemaine Water Reclamation Plant from late May to late July, weather permitting.
Works include extending the existing weir, installing a new electronic sensor and clearing overgrown vegetation at the weir.
After works are complete, the gauge will provide high quality and reliable data to assess the health of Campbells Creek.

Water mains cleaning - Epsom and Huntly
- Bendigo
We’ll be carrying out water mains cleaning along Station Street and Rennie Street in Epsom and Huntly from Tuesday 24 June to Tuesday 1 July.
We'll use a technique called ‘ice pigging’ which involves a truck pumping an ice slurry mixture though the water mains, via hydrants.
This cleaning work is in response to the water discoloration experienced by some Huntly customers in February of this year. We are carrying out this cleaning now, as the current cooler weather means there is less demand on the water supply network.
There will be no water supply interruptions for customers and your water remains safe to drink.
Customers along Station Street and Rennie Street may notice trucks parked along their street as we push the ice slurry mixture into the network. Customers in these areas may also notice traffic management in place as we carry out the works. Work will be carried out between 9.30am and 4pm on weekdays only.

Echuca Water Tower repairs
- Echuca
We are carrying out further maintenance at the Echuca Water Tower.
As part of routine inspections last year, we identified loose material on the outside of the tower, requiring removal and repair. Scaffolding has recently been erected around the tower so that our team can carry out these works. Temporary fencing remains in place for public safety.
We are working closely with Campaspe Shire and communicating regularly with those in the surrounding area.
There is no impact to Echuca's drinking water supply.
The tower plays a critical role, providing water pressure, via gravity, to the surrounding water network in Echuca. Repairs will be carried out carefully to ensure minimal change to the existing appearance of the tower.
First constructed in 1915, the water tower is a piece of historic infrastructure that requires continual inspections, maintenance and repairs as it ages. We inspect the tower every six months.
More history about the tower can be found here.
