If you would like to connect to water or sewerage but your property isn't serviced by a main, you need to find out if your property is suitable for a mains extension.
If you're connecting a property in an urban growth area, see Augmentation Plans for infrastructure requirements.
Step 1. Read our Land Development Manual
Developers should check whether services are available, as not all sites are suitable for connection. Our Land Development Manual (PDF 1MB) is a detailed guide that explains what’s involved in extending mains and what’s required for your building proposal.
Step 2. Engage a registered consultant
You will need a registered consulting engineer (PDF 85KB) to manage survey, design, construction and building administration works on your behalf.
You or your consultant can use an asset plan to locate existing water and sewer mains.
Step 3. Receive a Letter of Conditions
Once we have verified the design, we will issue you a Letter of Conditions that states building requirements.
If you need your Letter of Conditions within 10 business days, complete the High Priority Mains Extension Response form online. A high priority fee applies.
Step 4. Arrange an inspection
We inspect new assets to make sure they meet requirements.
To fast track the final inspection, apply for a High Priority Mains Extension Practical Completion Inspection.
We will attend the site and complete a Practical Completion final inspection within 2 full business days after receipt of your application. A priority fee applies.
