Gunbower is a small town on Gunbower Creek in the Campaspe Shire. It has a population of around 500 people.

Water Supply

Murray - supplies Cohuna, Echuca, Gunbower and Leitchville. Raw water is supplied from the Murray River. Goulburn-Murray Water manages the raw water supply.

Water Treatment

Water is treated at the Gunbower Water Treatment Plant.

The Water Treatment Process (PDF 43KB) includes coagulation and floccation, MIEX (magnetic ion exchange) to remove dissolved organic matter, clarification, microfiltration, disinfection via UV and chlorination.



Sewage is treated at the Gunbower-Leitchville Water Reclamation Plant (WRP).

What happens at the water reclamation plant

The WRP uses a lagoon system to produce treated Class C recycled water. The system includes 2 facultative lagoons, a maturation lagoon, a winter storage lagoon and an irrigation system.

The treated water evaporates or is used for irrigation.
