Young artists and designers encouraged to let the creativity flow

Coliban Water is hoping to discover the next group of budding young artists as part of this year’s National Water Week Poster Competition.

The annual competition sees students design a poster that promotes water-related messages and themes.

Executive General Manager Customer and Stakeholder Experience, Lauren McLean, said junior artists are encouraged to create a poster that reflects this year's theme, ‘Water for all, Inspiring Action’, which is focussed on the importance of clean water.

“Water is a part of everyone’s lives and inspiring people to take action to ensure a sustainable water future is an important and timely theme,” she said.

“It’s the perfect reason for our local students to get out the paints and crayons, sharpen their pencils, and let their creativity flow.”

All students from local preschools, primary schools, and individual artists in our region are encouraged to take part in the competition.

“We’ve seen some terrific entries in the past and are hoping for the same again from students in our region,” she said.

The competition, which is now open, closes Friday 6 September with winners announced during National Water Week which runs from 21 –27 October.

Judges will pick winners based on how well the poster reflects this year’s theme, how it communicates water-related issues, the sort of imagery and design used, whether art materials have been effectively used and the overall look of the poster.

Entries will be divided into prep/foundation, Grade 1-2, Grade 3-4, and Grade 5-6. All students will receive a participation certificate, but a selection of great prizes will be awarded to the students judged to have the first, second and third best designs.

All participating preschools and primary schools will also enter the draw to win $250 towards a sustainability project. Last year’s winner, Heathcote Primary School, put their prize towards a greenhouse.

Posters should be A4 or A3 in size with high-resolution, high-quality images submitted in JPG or PNG formats.
Uploaded files are limited to 20MB. Original posters can either be scanned or photographed.
