The first step in a broader package of water pressure improvement works for Marong is progressing well.

Executive General Manager Climate and Population Adaptation Steve Healy said construction is underway on a new three-megalitre concrete tank and booster pump station at Sterry Road, Marong.

“This is great news for Marong and a starting point to improve water pressure and store water locally, which will improve water supply reliability.

“We know Marong has experienced water pressure issues for some time, particularly during periods of hot weather when there is increased demand on the network,” Mr Healy said.

This project, expected to be complete in time for summer, will assist with water pressure during heat waves.

Further solutions to improve water pressure during heat waves are being planned. These involve constructing additional large-diameter water pipelines between Bendigo and Marong.

Contractor Simpson Construction started work on the new tank in May and despite recent wet weather having an impact on progress, the project remains on track for completion.

“A concrete pour for the tank is planned to take place today (Friday 30 July, weather permitting), so you may notice truck activity in the area.”

Coliban Water is working with Powercor regarding a power supply for the site.

“The new tank and booster pump station are larger and more powerful, designed to improve efficiency and create a more robust network in Marong over the long-term,” Mr Healy said.

The new concrete tank has also been selected because of its high resilience to bushfire.

The broader solution for the area includes two pipelines to be constructed on Sterry Road to connect to the new tank and further pipeline improvements elsewhere in the network.

The contract for the pipeline works has been awarded to S & R Engineering and Construction. It is anticipated pipeline completion will tie in with tank completion in time for the summer period.
