Coliban Water has received the Social Procurement Award at the Be.Bendigo Business Excellence 2023 awards.
Managing Director Damian Wells says the recognition demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to using our customers’ money in their own local economy and contributing to the region in which we operate.
“We know that more than simply delivering water and sewer services, our customers expect us to be contributing to a thriving region and economy as well as supporting those who need it,” he said.
The Be.Bendigo Business Excellence Awards honour the excellence and innovation of Bendigo businesses and are an opportunity for businesses to reflect on current practices, achievements and receive recognition for their contribution to a vibrant region. Now in its 28th year, the Awards are still the largest awards program of its kind in the greater Bendigo region.
“Social Procurement is when organisations like ours use their buying power to generate social value above and beyond the value of the goods, services or construction being procured. This award reflects our commitment to integrating social procurement practices and making a positive community impact.
“Social procurement and Local Benefit criteria are a significant part of the tender process with organisations such as Dja Dja Wurrung, Peppergreen Farm, Deakin University, Access Australia Group and Scope (Aust) Ltd,” he said.
Coliban Water delivers greater advantages through its procurement by ensuring value-for-money considerations are not solely focused on price, but also address social and sustainable outcomes that benefit the community.
The organisation was also a finalist in the Technology and Digital Award, which recognises businesses who demonstrate their expertise through either advanced digital processes or the development or delivery of technology focused products and services.
Coliban Water put forward its customer experience improvements such as business process optimisation, customer analysis and insight, product and billing management and delivery of digital capability.
“We’re transforming the way we conduct business through improving experiences and interactions for customers and staff. We’ve committed to our customers that we’ll be easy to deal with and proper digital investment is making that happen,” Mr Wells said.
