Rural water flowing for Coliban Water customers
Coliban Water’s rural season is underway, with water set to run through more than 500 kilometres of channels and pipelines.
More than 1,059 licence holders will be supplied with rural water between now and May 2025, with 100 per cent of the allocation available.
Rural water is untreated water which can be used by customers for agricultural, stock or domestic use.
Managing Director Damian Wells said this provides assurance for rural customers and allows them to plan ahead for their families, businesses and livelihoods.
“Until recent rain, the region had experienced an extended period of dry weather. We expect overall demand to remain high this summer.
“Upper Coliban, Lauriston and Malmsbury Reservoirs are at a combined capacity of 73% and we’re also holding 94% of our share of Lake Eppalock. Our storage levels remain in a good position,” Mr Wells said.
In preparation for the rural water season, annual channel maintenance saw significant cleaning and repairing of the channel network.
“This included removing about 15 tonne of silt and rock from three historic water dissipators in Sedgwick, allowing water to flow more freely.
“We’ve also completed the first phase of our $5.7 million Rural Water Efficiency Project, engaging with rural customers to seek their feedback on future plans for the rural network.
“If any rural customers haven’t already, we would encourage them to complete and send their preference form back, or complete it online at connect.coliban.com.au/rural-water-efficiency
“These upgrades will deliver improved customer service levels, greater water efficiencies and significant water savings,” Mr Wells said.
Rural water is delivered across the network through a rostered ordering system or based on demand. To place an order, you must be either a registered licence holder or an authorised person for the account.
Water orders can be submitted between 7am and 2.30pm Monday to Friday by calling the rural water order line (excluding public holidays and the Christmas/New Year break). Coliban Water requires 48 hours’ notice or two working days for orders.
Rural customers who wish to order water need their individual BEE number ready when they call on 1300 761 738.
