New aerators at the Kyneton Water Reclamation Plant have been switched on today, signalling the practical completion of the first stage of the redevelopment at the site.
Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas inspected the facility, which is undergoing a multi-million-dollar upgrade to be able to serve the Kyneton region until 2040.
The Phase One works included a series of improved treatment processes in the lagoons, as well as tanks for the storage of Class B water, to be used for irrigation at a nearby farm owned by Hardwick Meatworks.
The remaining Phase One works at Hardwick Meatworks farm are on track for completion as scheduled this month. This involves the construction of approximately 200 megalitre storage and irrigation development.
An improved wastewater treatment process at the Hardwick Meatworks processing site will improve the quality of water being sent to the plant for further treatment.
The benefits of the treated water are already being seen at Hardwick Meatworks new irrigation site, with the first harvest cut and baled in recent weeks.
Phase Two works are also on track to be complete by December 2020 and will deliver the construction of a Class C to B treatment plant for the Hardwicks irrigation scheme, additional storage of approximately 200 megalitres and additional irrigation areas including transfer pipework and irrigation infrastructure.

Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas said she is delighted to see works progressing quickly at the Kyneton Water Reclamation Plant.
"I look forward to seeing the completed Phase Two later this year.
“The completion of Phase One works is an important milestone and a positive step towards meeting the needs of our growing community,” Ms Thomas said.
