Coliban Water has launched a new resource for kindergarten and early learning educators, aimed at teaching children to become Water Heroes.
Executive General Manager Strategy and Governance Roslyn Wai said the Water Hero Kindergartens resource is a way of sharing all the tips and tricks kindergarten teachers have shared with us.
“We know teachers love having a peek in other teacher’s classrooms. It’s a great way to learn and try different approaches,” Ms Wai said.
The handbook features a range of activities, routines and printable resources to help classrooms save water, choose tap and use appropriate waste management strategies.
In the last financial year our Corporate Education Officer delivered the Water Heroes incursion to 2,035 children in 53 kindergartens across the region.
“Our incursions are a fun and interactive session, which include water-related activities and demonstrations. It’s evident there’s a genuine interest in incorporating water efficiency in their programs and a desire to learn more,” Ms Wai said.
The resource celebrates the contribution of Early Learning Centres in teaching future generations about water efficiency by sharing initiatives from educators throughout our region.
As well as water efficiency, the resource explores how we can encourage children to protect their teeth by making tap water their primary drink, and how we demonstrate our care for the environment by being mindful of what is flushed down toilets.
“You would be amazed at what rubbish is flushed down the toilet, enters our Water Treatment Plants and blocks our sewer network. We’re hoping to instil a sense of responsibility for the sewers and the environment in children from a young age,” Ms Wai said.
The resource will be distributed to kindergartens throughout the Coliban Water region, or you can request a copy by emailing communications@coliban.com.au.
