We are upgrading the Cohuna Water Treatment Plant as part of our Water Treatment and Storage Upgrade Program, a $40 million program of upgrades across our service region.
Upgrades in Cohuna will include replacing the pump station, electrical upgrades, and improvements to water treatment processes at the plant.
We'll be working on weekdays between 7am and 5.30pm with some low impact works on some Saturdays.
No interruptions are planned as part of these works, but some customers may notice minor pressure fluctuations as testing is carried out.
During works you may notice noise and dust. We’ll aim to reduce this by wetting down the site where possible to reduce dust. You may also notice more trucks in the area using the plant entrance on Cohuna Island Road.
Current works
We have installed new pressure pumps at the Cohuna plant. These pumps will help move drinking water through the town’s supply network.
Final testing of these pumps will take place in early November. Customers may notice some pressure fluctuations during this testing.
Future works
From November to early 2027, we will continue installing the ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) dosing system and new washwater system as part of the Cohuna plant’s upgrades.
The new UV disinfection unit will provide a higher level of disinfection for water treated at the Cohuna plant.
Cohuna’s drinking water is currently treated with PAC dosing trailers. The new PAC dosing system will permanently replace these trailers.
The new washwater system will wash unused raw water taken from Gunbower Creek before returning it to the waterway.
Unused raw water is usually dirty and has sunk to the bottom of the treatment process. By cleaning this water and returning it to the creek, it stops unused raw water being sent to the Cohuna Water Reclamation Plant.
There will be no interruption to your water services as part of these upgrades.
