Residents in Bendigo’s northern suburbs of Epsom and Huntly will see an increase in water pressure and capacity following the completion of a new five-kilometre pipeline.
The $5.8 million Epsom-Huntly Pipeline will deliver drinking water to more than 6,200 households in the suburbs of Huntly, Epsom, Ascot and Wellsford, significantly increasing the network’s capacity and reliability.
The new pipeline has a diameter of 630 millimetres, that’s nearly three times the size of the old 225mm water main and a 150mm water main that serviced the area.
Water flow rates to Epsom and Huntly will improve the estimated maximum flow rate to approximately 91 litres per second.
The pipeline is being tested and commissioned over the next two months and is due to be turned on in late October.
The pipeline is expected to deliver up to four megalitres per day to customers during periods of extreme heat.
Recent population growth in these areas had highlighted the need for the pipeline, which will address water pressure issues previously experienced during peak summer demand.
The pipeline runs from the intersection of Howard Street and Station Street in Epsom to the intersection of Rennie Street and Gungurru Road in Huntly.
The Epsom-Huntly Pipeline is one of several infrastructure upgrades carried out by Coliban Water as part of its Big Water Build to underpin the region’s prosperity.
