Heathcote is 40km south east of Bendigo in the City of Greater Bendigo. It has a population of around 2,800 people.

Water restrictions

Water Supply

Coliban System (Northern) - supplies Bendigo, Axedale, Huntly, Raywood, Sebastian, Heathcote and Tooborac. The towns can be supplied by the Upper Coliban, Lauriston and Malmsbury Reservoirs, located near Kyneton. The towns can also be supplied from an 18 per cent share of Lake Eppalock, or the Waranga Basin via the Goldfields Superpipe.

Water Treatment

Water is treated at the Heathcote Water Treatment Plant.

The Water Treatment Process (PDF 43KB) includes potassium permanganate dosing, coagulation, ultrafiltration, ozonation, BAC filtration, pH correction, fluoridation and chloramination.

Wastewater

Sewage

Sewage is treated at the Heathcote Water Reclamation Plant (WRP).

The sewerage system in Heathcote includes 20 kilometres of gravity mains, 3km of rising mains and 2 pump stations.

What happens at the water reclamation plant

Sewage is treated using a lagoon system. Treated water is stored in lagoons and used to irrigate the Heathcote Golf Course. Biosolids are reused for agricultural purposes.
