With the days getting longer, and the weather warming up, it’s a great time to enjoy the Coliban Water reservoirs.

Shoreline fishing, kayaks, canoes and small craft with electric motors are permitted at Upper Coliban, Lauriston and Malmsbury Reservoirs.

Coliban Water Managing Director Damian Wells said that the opening of the reservoirs to on-water access in August this year provides some exciting new fishing and recreational opportunities at reservoirs in our region.

“We acknowledge there is a desire to create more on-water access points, in particular at Premier Mine Road, and we will continue to explore opportunities for more access points in the future.

“I want to thank the Dja Dja Wurrung for consenting to the current access points we have in place,” Mr Wells said.

Chief Executive Officer of the Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation Rodney Carter said that the reservoirs hold significant cultural heritage value.

“We are working with Coliban Water to ensure appropriate considerations have been given to protect these values for all Victorians,” Mr Carter said.

Coliban Water met with representatives from the Kyneton Angling Club this week to discuss improved access for the upcoming Go Fishing Family Day that will be held this Sunday 20 October from 9am to 3pm at Upper Coliban Reservoir.

Mr Wells said works have been undertaken that will facilitate closer car access at the designated on-water access point for Upper Coliban Reservoir.

“We have completed minor works at the Kyneton-Springhill Road visitor area that will allow cars to drive up to 10 meters from the water’s edge, unload their craft, and then return to the car parking area.  This newly improved access will be operational by the end of this week, ahead of what is expected to be a busy Spring and Summer period.

“Coliban Water staff will be on hand Sunday morning to help guide visitors who wish to launch closer to the water using the improved access point,” Mr Wells said.

President of the Kyneton Angling Club, John Condliffe, was pleased these further access works were being completed and encouraged families to visit the reservoirs.

“The opening of these storages to on-water recreation is a fantastic addition to the attraction of living and visiting the Macedon Ranges.  Upper Coliban Reservoir is a superb fishing spot, and with the ability to now get out on the water, we expect to see more people enjoying the fishing spoils the site has to offer.

“We encourage families to come along on Sunday and join us,” Mr Condliffe said.

Delivering the Victorian Governments commitment to open storages and improve access for recreational activities continues to be a partnership between Coliban Water, the Kyneton Angling Club, the Dja Dja Wurrung and the Victorian Fisheries Authority.
