DO NOT DRINK TAP WATER ADVISORY
Your water may not be safe to drink

Our do not drink advisory remains in place for all customers in Elmore.

Please continue to follow all ‘do not drink’ advice, which includes not using the tap water for:
•    Drinking
•    Preparing beverages
•    Washing and preparing food
•    Preparing baby formula
•    Brushing teeth
•    Making ice

You can use the water for:

•    toilet flushing
•    bathing. Please ensure you do not ingest the water
•    washing machine use

Boiling water will not remove any potential contaminants that may enter the distribution system if there is pressure loss in the system.

If you are concerned that you may have been affected by contaminated water please seek medical advice. Inform your GP of this advisory.

A water trailer is available at the Elmore Water Treatment Plant, at the base of Elmore water tower. This is located on Elmore-Raywood Road. Bring a water container to fill for personal use.

Bottled water is also available at this location above. It is no longer being provided at BP Elmore.

Coliban Water staff are door knocking in the community today to ensure everyone is aware of this advice.

If you have an elderly or vulnerable neighbour, please check on them, or let us know so we can support them.

The cause of the issue was a fault with the alarm system which caused the Elmore Water Treatment Plant to stop running.

In addition, at the time of the fault, our region was receiving heavy rain and intense weather.

Water supply has since been restored, noting the do not drink advisory remains in place.

We will be adding chlorine to the water supply in the short term, as we resume water production.

We expect it will be several days before Elmore’s water network returns to normal, and before the ‘do not drink’ advisory can be lifted.

Please continue to check our website for updates at coliban.com.au/interruptions or phone 1300 363 200.

EARLIER: Monday 25 December

DO NOT DRINK TAP WATER ADVISORY
Your water may not be safe to drink

Issued: 1.30pm Monday 25 December 2023
Next update: 4.30pm

Coliban Water, following consultation with the Department of Health, advises that customers in Elmore do not drink tap water from 1.30pm Monday 25 December 2023 until further notice.

This advice has been issued following an issue at our Elmore Water Treatment Plant earlier today which has caused the town’s clear water storage tank to be drained.

The plant is currently being restored, but this will take some time to restore normal operations once again. We will be adding chlorine to the water supply in the short term, as we resume water production.

We are asking all residents from 1.30pm Monday 25 December 2023 to not drink tap water until further notice.

From 1.30pm Monday 25 December 2023, water from your tap is not suitable for drinking.
While this ‘do not drink tap water’ advisory is in place, you are advised not to use the tap water for:

 • drinking
 • preparing beverages
 • washing and preparing food
 • preparing baby formula
• brushing teeth
• making ice.

Boiling water will not remove any potential contaminants that may enter the distribution system if there is pressure loss in the system.

If you are concerned that you may have been affected by contaminated water please seek medical advice. Inform your GP of this advisory.

We are organising bottled water for delivery to those impacted in Elmore, with further details on this to come.

There will also be a water trailer for residents to use to supplement their water supply in the short term. We will shortly advise the location of this.

Please share this advice with neighbours and friends. Look after those in your area if you have a neighbour that needs a hand.

Coliban Water will provide a further update at 4.30pm.

For further information or if you have special needs, please go the Coliban Water website or call on 1300 363 200.
