Media Information Statement

Coliban Water is undertaking a rollout of digital water meters across our region, a project we expect to take six years to complete.

The installation of data loggers on customers' water meters in Boort was completed in September 2019 and we are currently in the data verification stage.

The data loggers in Boort have not been used for billing purposes.

We undertake a rigorous data verification process before we bill customers using the digital data.

The verification process involves a series of comparison reads between manual reads obtained by our meter readers to digital reads from data loggers.

The water usage data for our Boort customers for the three-month billing period up to mid-January 2020 was from manual meter readings taken by our meter readers in January 2020.

We expect to start billing our Boort customers using data from digital meter readings by mid-2020 and will notify customers before their bill is sent.

The digital water usage data from Boort has been used to identify potential leaks and high consumption. We have alerted seven Boort customers regarding their consumption.

If customers’ water usage is higher than expected they can monitor their daily water usage by reading their meter and recording water usage over 24 hours.

Water usage can increase in the summer during extended periods of warm and dry weather.

If customers have any concerns about their water usage or the digital meter read process, please call our Customer Support Team on 1300 363 200.
