Coliban Water will continue water releases to the Campaspe River to prevent a lagoon overflow at the Kyneton Water Reclamation Plant.
David Sheehan, Executive General Manager Water Quality, said water releases started on Wednesday 12 December 2018 and were expected to be in place for ten days.
“Due to more rainfall than first predicted, we need to continue these water releases for the time being to reduce the volume of water stored in the onsite treatment lagoons. The releases will also protect the embankments of these lagoons,” Mr Sheehan said.
Class B recycled water is generally used for offsite irrigation during summer. During winter, the recycled water is generally discharged to the Campaspe River.
“We continue to work with the Environmental Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) to ensure we comply with our licence in relation to discharges to the Campaspe River.”
