Media Information Statement
Due to high rainfall over the Kyneton area over the past 24 hours, we will be commencing a controlled treated water release to the Campaspe River today.
The release meets both water quality and dilution requirements of the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Licence for the Kyneton Water Reclamation Plant.
The water being released to the river is tertiary treated water, from our domestic treatment stream. This is higher quality than Class B recycled water because it has undergone treatment for nutrient removal and UV disinfection.
There are also adequate flows in the river for the releases to meet the maximum dilution ratio of 20 per cent treated water to 80 per cent river flow condition of our EPA licence.
With the rainfall capture on site, reduced demand for irrigation and increased flows to the plant we expect to be releasing 1 to 3 megalitres per day for the next few days while dilution ration can be achieved.
Phase 1 works of the Kyneton Solutions Project is close to completion, which involves improved treatment processes in the lagoons on site and tanks for storage of Class B recycled water for the Hardwick's irrigation site.
