Connecting with our community
Spring has sprung and Coliban Water has a bloomin’ great number of events on its calendar.
Executive General Manager Customer and Stakeholder Experience Lauren McLean said staff would attend numerous events throughout October and November, to continue building on the community’s knowledge of water and wastewater.
“We know that our customers love seeing us in the community, and we’re committed to reaching the towns we work in, whether that is through supporting schools, local clubs and groups, or taking part in community events,” she said.
Upcoming highlights will include Elmore Field Days on 1 to 3 October, Heathcote’s ‘Be Well Be Connected Expo’ on 2 October, Funloong Fun Day on 19 October, Inglewood Alive on 2 November, and a range of events and activations across the region to celebrate National Water Week, 21 to 27 October.
“At Elmore Field Days we’re looking forward to sharing some information about biosolids – which are a nutrient-rich alternative to fertiliser and a valuable resource that can be applied to maintain productive soils. We’ll also discuss the impacts of climate change on our region, and how we continue to navigate those challenges.
“An ongoing theme across many of these events is to keep listening and understanding what is important to our customers. A sustainable approach to our daily operations is a top priority, and we’re excited to discuss this progress,” Ms McLean said.
Free portable water stations will be provided at 20 events - including the Zinda Festival on 12 October, the Newstead Young Writer’s Festival on 20 October and the Bendigo National Swap Meet on 16 and 17 November. These stations provide free drinking water to keep people hydrated while also reducing single use plastic.
In the education space, members of our Community Engagement Team will deliver 22 sessions to primary and secondary schools next month.
“We tailor our sessions to be age-appropriate, and this teaches students about where their water comes from, how it is treated, and what happens to wastewater after it goes down the drain.”
Six library sessions are also planned, including a special storytime called After the Drain, which teaches youngsters about caring for the sewer system. This will coincide with this year’s National Water Week theme of Accelerating Action. It aims to spark a movement to a sustainable water future.
“We’re grateful to have these opportunities to reach a diverse range of people in our community,” Ms McLean said.
