Water Treatment

Water is treated at the Cohuna Water Treatment Plant.

The Water Treatment Process (PDF 43KB) includes coagulation/flocculation, clarification, filtration and pH correction and disinfection. Powdered activated carbon (PAC) is used to manage poor water quality.

Water is chlorinated before being pumped to clearwater storage tanks.

Wastewater

Sewage

Sewage is treated at the Cohuna Water Reclamation Plant (WRP).

What happens at the water reclamation plant

The WRP treats around 260 megalitres annually using a lagoon system. Due to the high evaporation rates in the area, treated water isn't reused.

There's 1 standpipe in Cohuna:

  • Recreation Reserve (off Cohuna Island Road)

For more information on standpipes and how to use them, see water carting.
