Coliban Water has launched an interactive Assets Map to give customers, contractors and stakeholders immediate online access to the location of its water and sewer networks.

Executive General Manager, Service Delivery, Danny McLean said the map improves the customer experience.

“People want to access information quickly and easily. Our Assets Map gives them immediate access to view our water and sewer networks 24/7,” said Mr McLean.

“Customers, consultants, surveyors, engineers, developers, designers, builders and plumbers will find the map useful for finding pipe locations and easements before planning any building works.

“We’ve committed through our Strategy 2030 to using innovation to improve customer experience and make it easier for people to do business with Coliban Water,” said Mr McLean.

Coliban Water’s 2,360 kilometres of water mains, 1,986 kilometres of sewer mains, recycled water network and rural network, as well as valves, fire plugs, maintenance holes and easements can all be found on the Assets Map.

“Before we launched the map, water and sewer plans had to be requested through our Customer Support Team. The plans would then be emailed, collected from our office or posted.

“We averaged more than 1,000 plan requests a month and are starting to see the number decrease as more people use our Assets Map.

“The map is mobile device friendly, which is useful for contractors working onsite and having to excavate close to our assets,” said Mr McLean.

Features include satellite and topographic views, measuring tools, an interactive layer list for turning on and off assets and a bookmark section to save favourite locations.

The next stage of the development for the Assets Map is to enable users to download PDFs for printing.
