The Edwards Road clear water storage tank in Strathfieldsaye is set for a facelift thanks to upcoming works.

Manager Customer Operations Steve Dunlop said the works from Monday 13 July to Thursday 16 July 2020 will include draining, cleaning and inspecting the inside of the tank.

“We’ll be undertaking a condition assessment of the tank to ensure its in good working order, before carrying out cleaning works.

“These proactive works are all about ensuring the water network is in the best condition possible to supply clean and safe drinking water to our customers,” Mr Dunlop said.

The tank will be isolated from the system for four days, during which time water will be supplied direct to the local supply network from the Bendigo Water Treatment Plant.

“This critical piece of infrastructure supplies water to Strathdale, Kennington, Spring Gully and Flora Hill and was last drained, cleaned and recoated in 2014,” he said.

The tank will be completely emptied, cleaned and crews will inspect the mixer and paintwork.

“We don’t expect any interruptions to water supply or changes in quality or pressure during the works.

“We will also have additional contingency measures, including pumps, in place to ensure ongoing service to customers,” he said.

Water levels in the tank will be slowly reduced in the lead up to the works to minimise any water loss during the cleaning. The remaining tank water will be released in a controlled manner into the local bushland near Edwards Road.
