Catchments in the Coliban Water region are now in a strong position heading in to what is expected to be a drier spring and summer.

Chief Officer Assets and Operations Danny McLean, said “Our storages received 26 gigalitres of inflows after above average rainfall in June.

On the other hand, August rainfall was very low with only 43 mm received, which is just over half of the long-term average.

The reservoirs were spilling in August and will remain closed to on-water recreation for the safety of users.

In July, the organisation announced a 100% allocation for the 2022/23 rural season so customers will have access to the full licence water volume for their property.

The region’s three-month climate outlook shows a high chance less than average rainfall during spring and summer and serves as a reminder that increased rain in recent years is not expected to become the norm.

We’re urging customers not to become complacent as we continue to face the challenges of climate and population change.

Permanent Water Saving Rules remain in place across the region to assist with overall water security.

You can help us maintain water security by saving water where possible and observing the Permanent Water Saving Rules, which include:
1.    Use a leak-free hand-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle at any time.
2.    Watering systems can be used on residential or commercial gardens and lawns any day between 6pm and 10am. A bucket or watering can may be used at any time.
3.    Public gardens, lawns and playing surfaces can be watered at any time with a hand-held hose, bucket or watering can. A watering system fitted with a rain or soil moisture sensor can be used any day between 6pm and 10am.
4.    Only use fountains or water features that recirculate water.
5.    Hard surfaces can be cleaned once every 3 months if staining develops. Use a high-pressure hose, hand-held hose or bucket to water hard surfaces during construction or renovations or to remove a hazard.

We provide regular updates on storage levels, reservoirs, rural season and permanent water saving rules on our website and social media channels.
