Boil Water Advisory now lifted – Heathcote

Your water is safe to drink.

Coliban Water, following consultation with the Department of Health, advises customers that the Boil Water Advisory issued on 29 September is now lifted for Heathcote. The water is safe to drink.

The Boil Water Advisory was issued after a burst water main in Heathcote which had the potential for ingress into the system and compromise to the safety of drinking water.

The Advisory is now lifted after repair of the burst water main and flushing of the supply system. Water quality testing has confirmed the water supply is safe.

We recommend customers flush their internal taps for two minutes to draw fresh water into their internal plumbing.

Access to the Heathcote Standpipe is also being reinstated.

Our team is set up outside the Heathcote Visitor Information Centre on the corner of High and Barrack Streets until 5pm today.

Please come by and see us if you have any questions or concerns about the Boil Water Advice issued yesterday afternoon following a burst water main.

Flushing of the network will take place throughout the day to draw freshly treated water through the system. While this work occurs you may notice some discolouration in your tap water and some pressure fluctuations. The Boil Water Advice remains in place and we will continue to provide further updates.

Bottled water will be available at the Heathcote Food & Wine Festival this weekend, so come along and enjoy what the wonderful wine makers of our region have to offer.

Update: 5.49pm Thursday 29 September

Our contractors will be flushing the network in Heathcote on Friday 30 September 2022.

During the flushing works, which will take the entire day, customers in Heathcote may experience discolouration to their water and water pressure fluctuations.

The flushing is being completed to draw the most freshly treated water through the network.

The flushing will not impact the supply of water to Heathcote, however, customers should continue to boil their drinking water until further notice.

Boil Water Advisory - Heathcote

Coliban Water, following consultation with the Department of Health, advises that customers in Heathcote should boil their drinking water until further notice.

This advisory has been issued following a burst water main in Heathcote. This burst has resulted in a supply interruption for some Heathcote customers and very low water pressure for others which may cause ingress into the system and compromise the safety of the drinking water.

Coliban Water recommends that customers should bring water to a rolling boil before being used by heating the water until a continuous and rapid stream of air-bubbles is produced from the bottom of a pan or kettle. Kettles with automatic cut-off switches are suitable. Variable temperature kettles should be set to boil.

After heating, water must be allowed to cool before using it, and be stored in a clean, closed container for later use. Care should be taken to avoid scalding injuries especially around children.

Boiled water can be used for:
•    drinking
•    preparing beverages
•    washing and preparing food
•    preparing baby formula
•    brushing teeth
•    making ice.

Unboiled water can be used for washing your hands, showering and bathing, flushing toilets, washing dishes (ensure dry before use) and clothes and garden watering. Ensure water is not ingested whilst bathing.

Consumption of unboiled water can cause gastro-like symptoms. If you experience any of these symptoms, please contact your GP and inform your GP of this advisory.

Please share this advice with neighbours and friends in the affected area. Coliban Water will keep customers informed as the situation changes.

Would owners of rented properties please ensure your tenants are aware of this advisory

Bottled water will be supplied to the Heathcote hospital, nursing home and childcare centre as well as the small number of customers affected by the supply interruption.

We are aware the Heathcote Food and Wine Festival is being held this weekend and we are working closely with the organisers to support the event and deliver bottled water.

For further information or if you have special needs, please go Coliban Water’s website or contact us on 1300 363 200.
