Wedderburn is a rural town located in the Loddon Shire, 75 kilometres north west of Bendigoon the Calder Highway.

Wedderburn has a population of 740. It is mainly a farming community but its early residents were gold miners and prospectors.

One of the main attractions for tourists is Hard Hill Reserve where, with a bit of imagination, one can feel a sense of what it was like in the 'old days' living in tents on the goldfields.

Water supply

Wedderburn's water supply system serves a population of around 740 people with around 500 connections. It is part of the Wimmera System.

Raw water for the township is sourced from the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline. The earthen storage basins located in Korong Vale have been replaced with two 2 megalitre lined and covered basins.

For further water resource information on the Wimmera System see our monthly Water Summaries.

Water treatment

The Korong Vale Water Treatment plant is situated around 6 kilometres north of Korong Vale.

Raw water is pumped from the adjacent storages to the plant where it is treated by flocculation, clarification, filtration and pH correction. There is also the capability to extract blue-green algae by means of a carbon filter. The water is chlorinated before storage in clearwater storage tanks.

The plant has a capacity to treat 3.6 megalitres per day.,

The treated water is pumped from the clearwater tanks to the Korong Vale Tank and from there is pumped 12 kilometres to the Wedderburn tank. It is then gravitated to the Wedderburn reticulation system.

The Wedderburn tanks hold up to 2.25 megalitres.

Where does my sewage go?

The sewer system was constructed in Wedderburn in 2005. Wastewater is collected via a pump station and a 20 kilometre sewer network.

What happens at the water reclamation plant?

The Wedderburn Water Reclamation Plant is a mechanical treatment plant which treats wastewater to Class C standard.

The plant has the capacity to treat 160 kilolitres of wastewater per day.

The treatment plant is intended to produce irrigation water to enable it to be re-used in a sustainable manner. It is currently used for onsite irrigation by our lease farmer.

Water restrictions

Permanent Water Saving Rules (PWSR) apply.

PWSR are a set of five common sense water rules that are in place at all times when water restrictions are not in force.
