Laanecoorie

Laanecoorie is a locality situated on the Loddon River in Victoria, Australia. It has a community hall, church, and caravan park.

It is located about 35 kilometres west of Bendigo in the Loddon Shire with a population of around 200 people in the town and surrounding area.

Laanecoorie was originally part of the “Simpson Run” and in 1840 “Janevale” home was named after Simpson’s wife.

Laanecoorie Weir was constructed in 1891 and was the second irrigation scheme for Victoria.

Sir John Monash (a famous engineer and WW1 General) designed and built a new bridge of reinforced concrete beam and slab construction, which still remains today.

Water supply

The Laanecoorie system serves the township of Laanecoorie, Tarnagulla, Dunolly and Bealiba. It is part of the Loddon System.

The water supply system serves both residential, commercial and industrial customers in Laanecoorie with around 40 connections.

Raw water comes from the Loddon River at Laanecoorie.

For further water resource information on the Loddon System see our monthly Water Summaries.

Water treatment

The raw water is pumped to the Laanecoorie Water Treatment plant which is located about 3 kilometres west of the town itself.

Water is treated by flocculation, clarification, filtration and pH correction. If necessary blue-green algae is extracted by means of a carbon filter. The water is then chloraminated before storage in clearwater tanks adjacent to the treatment plant.

Water gravitates from the clear water storage at the treatment plant to the Laanecoorie township.
