Government Strategies
There are number of regional and state water strategies and programs.
Sustainable water strategies take a long-term view
of water resource planning, considering all sources of water and the needs of
towns, industry, agriculture and the environment.
They guide the development,
integration and implementation of management plans prepared by water
corporations and catchment management authorities operating within each
region.

The Northern Region Sustainable Water Strategy is a 50-year plan. It is the region’s response to future drought, and the uncertainty of climate change.
The strategy was finalised in 2009 and was developed by the Department of Sustainability and the Environment in co-operation with the Northern Region community.
