Echuca Water Tower Maintenance Project

> Update - Thursday 28 February 2019

A condition assessment of Echuca Water Tower, corner High and Pakenham streets, is now complete.

Our project team are currently considering the options for tower maintenance work and will make a decision on the best solution. This page will be updated once a decision on works has been made.

The scaffolding will remain in place until works are complete.

> Project Background

The footpath around the Echuca Water tower was closed from August 2018 to January 2019 following some materials which dislodged from the roof area of the tower.

Pedestrian and public safety has been our priority during consideration of short, medium and long-term assessment works.

Scaffolding around the tower was installed in late December 2018 to allow ongoing assessment work to continue and safe pedestrian access through the area.

The footpath was reopened in December 2018.

An engineering report in 2018 confirmed the material was decorative coping from under the edge of the roof, and not a structural part of the tower.

The report also identified a further piece of coping which had dislodged but was sitting in a bracket at the top of the tower.

The reinforced concrete tower was constructed in 1915.
