Bushfire readiness and your local water supply

> Be prepared with another
source of water

Our bushfire preparation this season includes making sure our customers know how important it is to put aside some drinking water and to be ready with an alternative source of water in the event of a bushfire.

A bushfire may impact on our ability to maintain your water pressure or to supply water if a water asset is damaged.

If you intend to defend your property, be prepared with another source of water if town water becomes limited or unavailable.

>Alternative water sources

Consider installing a water tank specifically for fire fighting purposes.

If you have a swimming pool or dam consider using these as a source of water for fire fighting.

Rubbish bins, wheelie bins, bathtubs, laundry troughs and 44 gallon drums can also be used.

> Pumping water

To draw water from an independent water supply, a petrol or diesel fire-fighting pump is needed.

Consult a pump specialist to determine the size of the pump and fittings needed. Hoses for use in the event of a bushfire should be able to reach all areas of your home.

> Fire Districts

There are nine Fire Districts within Victoria, four of these are within our region. To view which Fire District (PDF 5MB) you are located in click on the link or on the image below.

> Electricity Safety plans

Electric Line Clearance Management Plan for the Bendigo Water Reclamation Plant (PDF)

Our Electric Line Clearance Management Plan (Bendigo Water Reclamation Plant) outlines how we manage vegetation clearance along our electrical assets to mitigate bushfire risk and ensure our assets are safe and reliable.

Bushfire Mitigation Plan - Powerlines for the Bendigo Water Reclamation Plant (PDF)

Our Bushfire Mitigation Plan – Powerlines (Bendigo Water Reclamation Plant) outlines how we manage our overhead powerlines and associated electrical assets to mitigate bushfire risk and ensure our assets are safe and reliable.

As the owner and operator of electrical assets, we prepared these plans in accordance with the Electricity Safety Act 1998 and the Electricity Safety (Electric Line Clearance) Regulations 2015, for approval by Energy Safe Victoria. These plans are subject to annual review to ensure they describe current management regimes and processes, and to allow for continuous improvement.

> Fire Danger Rating

See the CFA website for Fire Danger Ratings and Total Fire Ban declarations.

Fire Danger Ratings are forecast for four days and a Total Fire Ban is declared by CFA on days when fires are likely to spread rapidly and could be difficult to control.

If a district has not been declared a Total Fire Ban, fire restrictions may still apply for each municipality.

VicEmergency website

VicEmergency is Victoria's primary website for emergency warnings for fire and flood and provides a single source of information and advice to help people prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.

> Bushfire Survival Plan

Before the fire season starts, you should develop a Fire Ready Kit, to help you understand the risks on your property and be prepared in case of a bushfire.

You can download the Fire Ready Kit from the Country Fire Authority (CFA) website.
